CCF Combined Cadet Force

Ashlawn School has partnered with Rugby School to launch a Combined Cadet Force Contingent for students in year 10 and above.

The Combined Cadet Force (CCF) is a nationwide youth organisation which is sponsored by the UK Armed Forces. It looks very similar to the Army Cadet Force, Sea Cadets and RAF Air Cadets but operates in schools rather than in the community.

The CCF provides an exciting activity to do things that most teenagers do not have access to, many of them unique to the Cadet Forces.  This programme meets the needs of our school ambition by providing opportunities to develop skills outside of the standard curriculum.

Ashlawn School CCF is sponsored by the Royal Air Force. Students engaging with the programme take part in a wide range of activities including flying, gliding, adventurous training and rifle shooting. Every week they parade alongside RAF cadets from Rugby School working with teachers from both schools who have taken on uniformed roles within to support.

The Royal Air Force Air Cadets’ aims are to:

Promote and encourage a practical interest in aviation and the Royal Air Force among young people
Provide training which will be useful in the Services and civilian life
Encourage the spirit of adventure and develop qualities of leadership and good citizenship

Cadets will complete a range of different activities every week on a Wednesday afternoon. They follow a well-designed curriculum to develop skills in a wide variety of areas including first aid, navigation leadership and drill.  Alongside these, there are a range of different activities, courses and camps which will be available to students throughout the year.  Since the programme is heavily subsidised by the RAF, cost to parents and students are minimal.
