The aim of Ashlawn’s Science Specialism  is to:

develop a love of science and maths, raise attainment, contribute to whole school improvement and increase 6th form participation using

- innovative approaches to teaching and learning

- new technologies in teaching and learning

- a  diversified curriculum which allows all students to enjoy and succeed in science and maths

 

develop a love of science and maths in students, parents and staff from primary feeder schools by

- delivering primary Science clubs

- running twilight science courses for KS2 staff, students and parents

 

have a scientifically rich curriculum through

- cross-curricular super learning days

- science themed whole school activity days

- twilight courses such as GCSE astronomy and GCSE human physiology

- lower school science club

- electric car and 4x4 club

 

develop opportunities for students, staff and parents to experience science in the real world using

- professional development placements for staff

- STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) residential opportunities for students through the Smallpeice Trust

- regular outreach visits by STEM ambassadors and STEM companies

 

be at the forefront of developments in sustainable energy by

- installation of a wind turbine

- installation of solar PV

- showing other schools how to apply for permissions and funding for sustainable energy systems

- Reuse, reduce, recycle

Awards

On Wednesday 8th December 2 students from Ashlawn School competed against other local secondary schools to qualify for the Regional Final of ‘Young Chef of the Year'.
