Students may study and be entered for the 3 or 6 unit award, which provide ideal qualifications for students wanting a broad background in travel and tourism, and will allow them to progress to Higher Education or employment. The 3 unit award provides students with an opportunity to acquire knowledge, skills and understanding of the main principles and organisational structures associated with the travel and tourism industry.

The three compulsory modules studied in Year 12 are:
Travel Destinations (Portfolio Evidence)
Introducing Travel and Tourism (External Assessment)
Customer Service in Travel and Tourism (Portfolio Evidence)

The 6 unit award builds upon the foundations of the 3 unit award and extends the learning through the introduction of theories and concepts. In addition to covering those in units in Year 12, these students will also study the following in Year 13:
Tourism Development (External Assessment)
Event Management (Portfolio Evidence)
The Guided Tour (Portfolio Assessment)

Students on either of these courses will be encouraged to actively experience aspects of the travel and tourism sector. This will be facilitated through a variety of approaches to complement their studies, including, links with local employers, the use of case studies and primary research methods.

Awards

On Wednesday 8th December 2 students from Ashlawn School competed against other local secondary schools to qualify for the Regional Final of ‘Young Chef of the Year'.
