Course Description Music Sixthform
Building on skills developed through GCSE Music or instrument knowledge, this course further develops a wide range of music skills and appreciation.

Course Content - AS
Unit 1 - Performing - You will perform both as a soloist and as part of an ensemble.
Unit 2 - Composing - You will create a 3 minute composition, complete with score.
Unit 3 - Introduction to historical study in music - This is in 3 sections: a listening exam, a written exam involving set works, using a score to identify musical features.


Course Content - A2
Unit 4 - Extended Performance - You will prepare a 12-15 minute performance on your chosen instrument.
Unit 5 - Composition and Technical Study - You create your own composition and study other compositional techniques.
Unit 6 - Historical and analytical studies in music - A written exam involving listening to music and set works.
Assessment
60% Practical Work (Performing and Composing). 40% Written examination.
Career Opportunities
This course will benefit any student wanting to study music at university or music college. Career opportunities include Television and Radio, Teaching and Music Technology.
Entry Requirements
Grade B and above at GCSE Music or grade 5 in any instrument including voice

Awards

On Wednesday 8th December 2 students from Ashlawn School competed against other local secondary schools to qualify for the Regional Final of ‘Young Chef of the Year'.
