Course Title | Health & Social Care | Awarding Body | OCR | Course Level | AS & A2 (Single or Double) | Course Description  | Students may study and be entered for the 3, 6 or 12 unit award, which provide ideal qualifications for students wanting a broad background in health & social care, which will allow them to progress to Higher Education or employment. The 3 unit award provides students with an opportunity to acquire knowledge, skills and understanding of the main principles and organisational structures associated with working in the sector. This is studied over one year, usually in Year 12.
The three compulsory modules studied in Year 12 are: Promoting Quality Care (Examination Assessment) Communication in Care Setting (Portfolio Assessment) Promoting Good Health (Portfolio Assessment)
The 6 unit award builds upon the foundations of the 3 unit award and extends the learning through the introduction of theories and concepts. In addition to covering those in the 3 unit award in Year 12, these students will also study the following in Year 13: Care Practice and Provision (Portfolio Assessment) Understanding Human Behaviour (Examination Assessment) Child Development (Portfolio Assessment)
The 12 unit award is particularly appropriate for those wishing to progress to further studies in health, social care or early years within Higher Education or employment. In addition to those units covered within the 3 and 6 unit awards, these students will also study in Year 12: Complimentary Therapies (Portfolio Assessment) Caring for People with Additional Needs (Portfolio Assessment) Caring for Older People (Examination Assessment)
In Year 13: Mental Health Issues (Portfolio Assessment) Social Trends (Examination Assessment) Research Methods (Portfolio Assessment)
Students on each of these courses will be encouraged to actively experience aspects of the health and social care sector. This will be facilitated through a variety of approaches to complement their studies, including, links with local employers, the use of case studies and primary research methods.
