Course Content - AS
Unit 1 - Physical and Human Geography - This unit is worth 70% of AS. The core physical section involves the study of rivers, floods and management with the core human section investigating population change. Students can then opt to study from a range of physical or human options, e.g. cold environments, hot desert environments, energy issues or health issues.
Unit 2 - Geographical Skills - Students sit a geographical skills paper based on the content of Unit 1. Skills include investigative, cartographic, graphical, IVT and statistical skills.
Course Content - A2Unit 3 - Contemporary Geographical Issues - An issues-based approach to contemporary geographical themes. Students will study 1 human and 1 physical option from a range of topics e.g. plate tectonics and associated hazards, world cities and development and globalisation.
Unit 4A - Geographical Fieldwork Investigation - This unit gives students the opportunity to extend an area of the subject content into a more detailed fieldwork study. Students will be assessed on their fieldwork skills and will analyse and evaluate their fieldwork in response to questions set.
OR Unit 4B - Geographical Issues Evaluation - Students are given the opportunity to use their skills of analysis, synthesis and evaluation through an examination.
