Course Title | Business Studies | Awarding Body | OCR | Course Level | AS & A2 | | Students may study and be entered for the 3 or 6 unit award, which provide ideal qualifications for students wanting a broad background in business, which will allow them to progress to Higher Education or employment. The 3 unit award provides students with an opportunity to acquire knowledge, skills and understanding of the main principles and organisational structures associated with a business environment. This is studied over one year, usually in Year 12.
The three compulsory modules studied in Year 12 are: Creating a Market Proposal (Portfolio Evidence) Understanding the Business Environment (External Assessment) Recruitment in the workplace (Portfolio Evidence)
Two of these units are assessed through portfolio evidence, and one is assessed by means of an external examination.
The 6 unit award builds upon the foundations of the 3 unit award and extends the learning through an exploration of wider business concepts. There is an opportunity for students to begin the process of focusing their strengths and interests into a specific area through choice units, and for those who are undecided, the units will provide a learning experience covering the range of knowledge, skills and understanding essential to the business sector as a whole. In addition to covering those in the 3 unit award in Year 12, these students will also study the following in Year 13:
A Business plan for the Entrepreneur (Portfolio Evidence) Strategic-Decision-Making (External Assessment) One choice unit (Portfolio Evidence)
Students on either of these courses will be encouraged to actively experience aspects of the business sector. This will be facilitated through a variety of approaches to compliment their studies, including, links with local employers, the use of case studies and primary research methods. | Further Information | Mr J.
