The A Level Art course is a natural progression from GCSE Art and Design. Students will learn to develop their own responses as their skills and knowledge improve, and develop the ability to evaluate their work through tutorials. Students will be encouraged to work independently using agreed individual action plans.

Course Content - AS
Candidates choose one of the endorsements for study throughout the first year and students produce a collection of materials which exemplifies work carried out. For the exam, candidates choose one of five exciiting assignments and produce preliminary work over a month long period. At the end of the lead in period students complete 5 hours of unaided but supervised work.

Course Content - A2
Personal Investigation Candidates develop work through a personal investigation in response to an idea, issue, concept or theme of their choosing. For the exam, candidates choose one of eight exciting assignments and produce preliminary work over a month long period. At the end of the lead in period students must complete 15 hours of unaided but supervised work.
Assessment
AS - 50% Coursework, 50% Exam A2 - 50% Coursework, 50% Exam
Career Opportunities
Graduates tend to go onto either foundation courses at Further Education or direct entry to university. It is considered valuable to a wide range of careers ranging from Architecture through to web design.

Awards

On Wednesday 8th December 2 students from Ashlawn School competed against other local secondary schools to qualify for the Regional Final of ‘Young Chef of the Year'.
