Students follow a two year advanced programme of study, involving A Level courses, vocational courses or a programme containing both. All subjects comprise of 3, 6 or 12 modules. A Level subjects are taught in two discrete halves: the Year 12 AS qualification consisting of 3 modules; a further 3 modules being completed at A2 in Year 13 then builds into the full A Level qualification. The Advanced Vocational Certificate of Education can be studied at three stages. The 3 unit ASVCE (Advanced Subsidiary Vocational Certificate of Education) is equivalent to an AS qualification and is studied in Year 12; the 6 unit AVCE qualification is studied over two years and has the equivalency of a full A Level qualification. Formal external assessment of all advanced courses will take place during Year 12 and marks gained will contribute to the final grade achieved. Further assessment will occur during Year 13. All advanced courses attract grades of the range A-E. Students will take four subjects in Year 12, with the possibility of reducing to three subjects in Year 13. Personal, Social & Health Education, together with Key Skills, Citizenship and Critical Thinking will form part of the curriculum for all students in Year 12. Certification of Key Skill, Citizenship and Critical Training performance is included within the university entry tariff. We shall also continue to offer one-year Intermediate GNVQ courses with GCSE English and Mathematics for those students who do not meet the entry requirements for advanced programmes of study.
