We reserve the right to make a decision about a student’s aptitude for a course of study based upon mediation between GCSE grades, the possession of qualifications in a GCSE subject appropriate to the intended course, GCSE total scores and recommendations from pastoral leaders and subject teachers.

Students follow a two year advanced programme of study, which can involve GCSE retakes in English and Maths, A Level courses, applied vocational courses or a programme containing a combination.
A Level subjects are taught in two discrete halves: the Year 12 AS qualification consisting of 2 or 3 modules; a further 2 or 3 modules being completed at A2 in Year 13 then builds into the full A Level qualification.
Formal external assessment of all advanced courses will take place during Year 12 and marks gained will contribute to the final grade achieved. Further assessment will occur during Year 13. Advanced AS and A level courses attract grades of the range A-E, while Diplomas are graded pass, merit and distinction.
Ashlawn Sixth Form offers a personalised curriculum for all Year 12, 13 and 14 students. Our flexible curriculum offers GCSE retakes, AS, A2 and BTEC qualifications ensuring that career options remain open and learning is our focus.
Students will take three, four or five subjects in Year 12, with the possibility of reducing to three or four subjects in Year 13. The Certificate in Personal Effectiveness is offered as part of the curriculum for some students in Year 12.
We reserve the right to change our curriculum provision to meet further legislative changes.
Note: Health and Social Care A Level and the National Diplomas in Science are applied qualifications which are worth two A Levels and will be studied in the first year, along with one or two AS qualifications. In your final year, you will take your National Diploma and one or two of your A Levels to completion.
Our Sixth Form caters for all abilities so it is possible to mix GCSE retake qualifications along with A Level or National Diploma qualifications. For students with 5 or more A or A* GCSEs at Ashlawn Sixth Form it is possible for those students to take five AS subjects in the first year then reduce those down to four choices in the final year.
