Dear Year 7 student and your parent or carer

Welcome to The Creative Reader Project 2009-10. This is an exciting project which invites you to tap into your unique gifts and talents and free your creative mind.

For the project we are asking all Year 7 students to respond creatively to a book that you are currently reading. This could be the free book that you recently received in your English lessons or another book of your choice.

If you enjoy writing, you may choose to create a poem or an article based on the themes in your book. If you are an avid reader, you may choose to create an anthology of work related to your book. An artist? Why not create a painting or sculpture on the feelings in the book you have read. A musician? You could record a soundtrack to accompany a film of the book. A sportsman? A dancer? How about creating a new game or choreographing a dance inspired by your book? An IT genius? What about a short animation of your book? These are just a few ideas to get you thinking- the talents are yours and you have the freedom to respond to the project as you choose.

You will be supported in this project by your English teacher who will provide you with opportunities to discuss your creative progress in lessons. However, as this is about you showing off your own creative gifts and talents you are expected to do most of your creating independently.

All creative projects will need to be completed by Friday January 22nd 2010 and all Year 7 students are expected to complete a project.

The Creative Reader Projects will be celebrated in English lessons and in an exhibition in The Learning Resource Centre. The most creative responses will be published on the school website and featured on the new Ashlawn Gifted and Talented T.V. channel.

‘To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.’

Enjoy creating
