Upon leaving Ashlawn School 6th form in 2008, I went to Coventry University to study Physiotherapy. It is a 3 year course, with the University having some of the best facilities for Health Professional training in the country. Some of the days are very busy, working 9am-5pm. However, it does get you in to a routine for the working world. I have been learning a lot of anatomy in depth, looking at all the muscles, bones and nerves. I have also studied Pathophysiology, which is very similar to Human Biology, and covers cells and different types of diseases and their pathology. Furthermore, I have studied a rehabilitation module, learning techniques to treat patients and teaching people to use walking aids. It has been very interesting and I have really enjoyed it!

I'm about to start my final year at Warwick Uni in September, although this year I took a year out to work in industry so I'll be working there until the beginning of September. I've been working for a pharmaceutical company down in Oxford designing and making drugs for diabetes/cancer.Currently I’m torn between getting a job after next year, somewhere in synthetic organic chemistry, or doing a PhD again in org synth. I haven’t given up on teaching yet, but at the moment I’m more likely to head towards become an academic and teach at University rather than at high school I think...but I'll change my mind again soon! Again I haven’t decided yet which route to go for, but I have to do a research project next year with one of the lecturers so I will get to see academic research as well as industrial.

I successfully passed these A levels with much hard work On the day of our A level results i received a letter of acceptance from coventry university to study a degree in nursing. This was my first choice of university and something i had always wanted to do.

I was fortunate enough to depart from Ashlawn’s 6th form with 3 A’s at A level which guaranteed me entry onto my chosen university degree course, a BA in History and Sociology at the University of Warwick. Having spent three years having a fantastic time [both socially and intellectually] I gained a First class degree. During my last year as an undergraduate I took a course concerning Gender and Sexuality in the Americas and this provoked my interest in the gendered dynamics of slavery in North America. I felt I needed more of a theoretical background concerning gender and feminism so I went on to study for a Masters in Interdisciplinary gender studies in the Centre for the study of Women and Gender also at Warwick. Following this I took my PhD in History at Warwick specialising in the cultural lives of the enslaved. I spent time studying in the United States as part of my doctoral research and graduated in 2003.
