What is Academic Mentoring?

6 Sessions each year where you, with the assistance of a mentor, will evaluate your learning and progress.

What's It For?

To make each of you experts in your learning.

Experts?

  2. Know your areas for improvement (AFIS)
  3. Know your goals
  4. Know how to talk about learning
  5. Know your WAL
  6. Know your targets
  7. Know what you have to do to improve
  8. Know how to access help
  9. Know how to tell people - your parents, your teachers - all about your learning
  10. To know the secret of success

Who will be my mentor?

  • Tutor
  • Other classroom staff

How often will I be mentored?

  • 6 times per year.
  • 3 times your parents will be invited to join the mentoring meeting.

What is a Mentor?

  • Adviser
  • Coach
  • Guide
  • Guru
  • Instrutor
  • Teacher

What will my mentor do?

  • Guide you to becoming the expert in your learning.
  • Help you to establish:
    • Where you are now
    • Where you want to go
    • How many ways there are to get there
    • Which way you're going to choose

How will this work?

OPTIONS: What could you do?

WILL: What will you do?

What do I need to do?

  • Play your part
  • Assume responsibility for you and your success
  • Acknowledgement that if it's good enough for Johnny Wilkinson and Paula Ratcliffe it's good enough for you
  • Understand that you can get to where you want to go if you really want to and are prepared to work for it

Awards

On Wednesday 8th December 2 students from Ashlawn School competed against other local secondary schools to qualify for the Regional Final of ‘Young Chef of the Year'.
