On May 27th 2010 Michael Gove, Secretary of State for Education, invited outstanding schools such as Ashlawn, to become an Academy.

Following this the Governing Body has undertaken consultation with staff, students, parents and other local stakeholders. The range of consultation documents including the Question and Answer Booklet can be accessed via the links on this page.

Since the start of the Autumn Term, 80 outstanding schools have opened as Academies and over 150 more will convert over the coming months. Many of these 80 schools have taken advantage of their new freedoms to innovate in areas personalising learning, such as curriculum, pastoral care, and staff development. Examples of these innovations can be found on the DfE website.

The application to adopt Academy status has now been submitted. Once further details emerge from the DfE , the Governing Body will consider the matter further. We will of course keep you informed of any future developments.
