UPDATE: Following a positive first meeting with the Department For Education in September, the search for a site for Ashlawn’s new sister school has begun. We will meet next week with the Education Funding Association who will manage the delivery of a site for the school. As soon as a site has been identified, and a date for opening agreed, we will issue more information about admissions. We will continue to keep you updated on our progress.

Prime Minister announces new school for Rugby

Following a rigorous application and assessment process, the proposal for an additional site for Ashlawn School, as a new secondary school for Rugby was announced yesterday by the Prime Minister, David Cameron, in one of his last acts in office.

Approved by the Department for Education, the new school proposed by Ashlawn will now work towards opening in September 2017, catering for up to 180 students per year group. The school will replicate the outstanding model of education provided by Ashlawn School, the most oversubscribed school in the town.

Lois Reed, Head Teacher of Ashlawn School said:

“We are extremely pleased that the DFE have recognised that more young people should be able to benefit from the highly aspirational learning environment at Ashlawn School. Our intention is to provide an additional school which replicates the outstanding academic curriculum that we offer and enables more parents to select an Ashlawn education for their child. We are proud to be an over-subscribed school, and hope that we will now be able to meet more of the demand for secondary places across the town.

We are in the very early stages of pre-opening. We hope to be able to provide more detail about site and admissions processes in September and will keep people updated as soon as we have any further information. In the mean-time if parents would like to receive personal updates and a regular email newsletter, they can register with their details on our website at www.ashlawn.org.uk/expand-form .”
